The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is organizing a slew of activities for the Spring Break and it will be open every day from Saturday, March 2 to Sunday, March 10, 2024. As in previous years, this March vacation promises to be an exciting one for families and their children with a lineup of exciting adventures and new discoveries – creative workshops, an “Art Hive”, a collective mural and storytelling sessions. Each day offers something different!

EXPLORING STAINED GLASS (TARGET AGE : 9-12)
IN THE STYLE OF ARTIST LOUIS DESAULNIERS
Scenario by: Adélie Clavet-Nadeau
Jardin de givre (Frosty Garden), a print by artist Louis Desaulniers, depicts winter light shining through an icy, iridescent surface. The workshop takes its cue from this evocative, powerful work by inviting participants to create a stained-glass window using cellophane and coloured tissue paper, mounted in a small circular frame.

10AM-4PM : RUCHE D’ART (ART HIVE) SPONSORED BY
If you could illustrate your sleep by drawing it, what colour would it be? Translucent? A relaxing navy blue? Or more red and vibrant? How do you depict things that are invisible? During this Art Hub in March, art therapist Emmanuelle Meunier will encourage participants to think outside the box and explore this challenge, taking a cue from a piece of art by Eastern Townships painter Monique Voyer. A creativity project involving the entire family!

EXPLORING FAUX STAINED GLASS (TARGET AGE : 9-12)
IN THE STYLE OF ARTIST ALFRED MANESSIER
Scenario by: Ophélie Lemay
Families are invited to explore faux stained glass painting, inspired by the artistic practice of Alfred Manessier. Participants start with a sketch on a piece of paper, then transfer their composition onto a sheet of Plexiglass.

Roxane Bergeron’s palette favours hazy, colorful images that depict the features of a woman’s face. Children are invited to follow her approach by splashing watercolours on paper, then adding detailed strokes to turn their random shapes into faces.

The aim of this workshop is to introduce families to repoussé metal – a decorative surface created by hammering out the reverse side of an object. Inspired by medallions made by Sherbrooke artist Thérèse Lecomte, participants, using the image of a loved one, explore how lines and volume can create the sculptural effect of bas-relief.
