CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

⇒ Bourse de création KESAR, par la famille Rahimaly-Mamode

The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is seeking proposals from professional diverse artists for the first Bourse de création Kesar, par la famille Rahimaly-Mamode.

A grant of $12,000 will be awarded annually for the next three years (2024, 2025 and 2026) following an annual call for submissions and their evaluation by a jury.

In 2027, a group exhibition bringing together the work of the three recipients will be organised and presented at the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke. The three grant recipients will also benefit from a creative residency which will see them working alongside and drawing inspiration from one another to develop a shared narrative of their works, which will serve to define the theme and the unifying thread of the exhibition.

The goal of the Bourse de création KESAR par la famille Rahimaly-Mamode is to extend a hand to artists with a backround similar to that of the Rahimaly-Mamode family. The grant’s intention is to showcase the work of artists who have emerged from Quebec’s cultural diversity. The four donors wish to be in close contact with the artists and to help them thrive. In founding this grant, they want to see more people like them in the arts.

About the Rahimaly-Mamode Family

Chemika Mamode and Patrick Rahimaly have been models of integration since their arrival in eastern Sherbrooke in 1994. This couple, from Madagscar, embodies with verve the concept of pluralism at the heart of their community and their philosophy.

Their wide-ranging path began in community health, where for twenty-eight years Chemika has cared for the health of several generations as a pharmacist with her own pharmacy in eastern Sherbrooke. Their activities gradually broadened to include community development and the growth of local small businesses. Lovers of the arts, the couple have also worked with the Festival Cinéma du monde, the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke and the Festival des traditions du monde, for which Partrick has served as president since 2016.

Accompanied by their children Kevan and Sarah, they founded the company Kesar, which focuses on the development of urban projects which promote residential, commercial and cultural diversity in eastern Sherbrooke. Their vision transcends disciplines and social groups and redefines involvement in urban issues. They are the heart of what Sherbrooke is becoming. They are everywhere, they are multifaceted, and they share their inner light with the entire community.

About the Jardins Racine

Jardins Racine is a space for research and creation engaged in the development of an inspiring and constantly evolving region in Estrie, offering an abundant variety of artistic resources. This site, the former residence of the late Quebec actor and producer Pierre Valcourt, located in the heart of the countryside on the edge of a forest, puts at the disposal of artists several indoor and outdoor structures suited to exploration, creation, research and reflection in every artistic medium. Several artists have participated in Jardins Racine’s laboratories to create installations and sculptures out of materials recycled from our gardens and forests.

Established in the village of Racine, the institution develops its activities using an ethical and ecological approach, promoting respect for people and the natural environment. Jardins Racine, aspiring to form part of a national and international network of artistic residencies, is positioning itself as an artistic incubator, encouraging dialogue between diverse disciplines.
