From March 1 to 9, 2025 let your creativity flow!


Presented by Desjardins, Spring Break at the MBAS will be more flamboyant than ever this year!
In the enchanting setting of the “Lines of Fire” and “Forest Walk” exhibitions, young and old are invited to discover a wide variety of fun artistic activities: creation workshops, discovery tours, Art Hive, storytelling, artist meet-and-greets, live drawing, scavenger hunts, walks with the mascot Noisette, face painting inspired by famous paintings… In total, about thirty activities spread over 9 days of pure fun! Additionally, thanks to the generous support of Desjardins, Thursday, March 6 is free for everyone.

Saturday, March 1, 2025
10:30 AM to 12:00 PM: FAMILY CREATION WORKSHOP
Exploring stencils and watercolor painting (Target age: 6-8 years)
In the style of artist Pierre Gauvreau
Families will explore the use of stencils to create a composition where shapes and colors overlap. Watercolor application will be done using sponges, wide brushes, and a toothbrush!

12:30 PM to 2:00 PM: FAMILY CREATION WORKSHOP

Accompanied by a mediator, explore the remains and artifacts of our heritage building and discover the exceptional works of Serge Lemoyne, Rita Letendre, Marcelle Ferron, and more. 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM: ART HIVE PRESENTED BY

The Hive is a space of well-being, meeting, and inclusion rooted in a philosophy of democratizing the arts. Everyone is welcomed as an artist, regardless of their level of knowledge in the arts and without regard to their technical skills.
Personalized support is provided by art therapist Sara Giard Pagé and a museum mediator. A large quantity and variety of creative materials are available for participants. There are no instructions; autonomous experiences of creativity, learning, and sharing of know-how are encouraged. At the beginning of the activity, a work from the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts collection is presented as an introduction to the session, followed by an art therapy exercise related to the theme.
As part of this March Art Hive, we invite you to incorporate a collaborative element into your creations, relying on the strength of collaboration to experiment with group artistic creation. Happy creating and wonderful encounters!

In the style of Guido Molinari, this activity proposes painting an emotion or scene using only colorful geometric shapes. As a warm-up exercise, a blind drawing will be done, just as the artist used to do.

The Fire of My Creativity (Target age: 8 years and up)

Accompanied by a mediator, visit the “Lines of Fire” exhibition, which brings together the works of artists André Fournelle and Marc Garneau. A creation activity is offered in the educational room, where it will be possible to create a sculpture with various materials such as wood, cork, charcoal, and even wire!

A DAY IN THE COLORS OF LA FABRIQUE CULTURELLE
9:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Creative Meeting with Artist Guylaine Couture
I Make My Little Zine (Target age: 8 years and up)

Passionate about creativity and books, Guylaine Couture specializes in creating artist books and zines. With family or friends, join the artist for a discussion about the zine universe, exploring its mysterious and sometimes rebellious nature. Then, learn to create your own zine using upcycled and reused materials.

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM : Forest Animals Mask
Creation and Scavenger Hunt (For all)

In the animated forest of artist Thomas Corriveau, the crow, the fox, the deer, the wolf, and the bear roam silently. The animals can see you, but you cannot see them… To take on the challenge of this activity, wear the paper mask you previously made at the MBAS educational workshop, then enter the forest of the “Forest Walk” exhibition. The goal of the game? Spot the animal figurines hidden there, like a scavenger hunt.

Meet the talented artist Catherine Magnan and enjoy live digital drawing projected on a screen. A participatory activity in collaboration with La Fabrique culturelle!

Making a mobile with construction paper (Target age: 9-12 years)
In the style of artist MICHEL PIMPARÉ

Families are invited to create a pretty decorative mobile depicting a tiger camouflaged through the creepers and leaves of the jungle, directly inspired by the work La porte du tigre et de l’oiseau by artist Michel Pimparé. This workshop will enable youngsters to discover acrylic markers while assembling a three-dimensional object using materials such as string, glue and wooden sticks.

Storytelling and creative workshop ( Target age: 4-7 years )

Follow the story of Jeanne, a young ballerina, who through dance classes, rehearsals and performances, meets a great artist. Edgar Degas, one of the founding members of the Impressionist group, observed, drew, painted and sculpted dancers. Like him, come and sculpt your own prima ballerina. Tutu, music and movement!

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM : Creation of a collective mural on the theme of fire (For all)

MBAS mediators are looking forward to welcoming you in large numbers to create a collective mural on the flamboyant theme of fire! Using a small wooden panel, children and their parents will trace charcoal and grease pencil motifs inspired by the works of André Fournelle and Marc Garneau. At the end of the day, a lovely mosaic mural in warm colors will create a collective work of art.

12:30 PM – 3:30 PM : Face painting for kids inspired by famous paintings! (For all)

Join the party of artistic greats! Children will choose from among the most famous paintings before having their faces painted by a mediator. Kandinsky, Monet, Hokusai, Henri Rousseau, Van Gogh… which great painter will you choose to make up your face?
Public: Intended for families, children must be accompanied by an adult.

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM : Forest walk with our friend the mascot Noisette (For all)

Starting at 1 p.m., mascot Noisette will be on hand to take a stroll through the forest with all her friends! And don’t forget to take part in the plant identification game you’ll come across on the trail. Build up your herbarium and discover how to identify the botanical species that inhabit our territory. Don’t worry, MBAS mediators will be on hand to help you complete the trail!

The workshop invites children to explore the theme of conifers and their environment. They’ll discover geometry in space, using construction paper to make a three-dimensional tree straight out of Ernest Aubin’s magnificent painting. And with the help of pine cones, pipe cleaners and coloured cardboard, they’ll be able to create little woodland animals, hidden behind the green conifers.

Come and help Léo and his brother find the words that Grandma has lost. Inspired by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream, this story reflects on fear and illness. Complement this reading by creating a work in oil pastel.

Meet a great artist: Mary Cassatt. Known for her scenes depicting maternity, she was one of the few female artists to embrace Impressionism. Inspired by her intimate subjects, resplendent colors and vivid or sometimes blurred strokes, come and discover blood tissue paper, an unusual artistic technique.
